The Technical University of Munich (TUM) has founded the Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MSRM) as a new Integrative Research Institute (IRI). Such IRCs are formed to foster and empower mature interdisciplinary fields institutionally as a key player in the new organization of TUM. Scientists from various TUM faculties and top international researchers work together under one umbrella and across classical silos of disciplines.
Already today, only a few years after its founding, MSRM bundles expertise across many faculties, including Aerospace and Geodesy, Architecture, Electrical and Information Engineering, Informatics, Education, Governance, Mathematics, Medicine, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Sports and Health as well as Civil, Geo and Environmental Engineering.
Thus, MSRM not only brings together experts from classical robotics and AI departments, such as electrical engineering, computer science and mechanical engineering, but it builds bridges to machine intelligence collaborators of the future, with current representatives from the departments of physics, chemistry, architectural/industrial design, life sciences, and health. The MSRM synergizes this diverse academic expertise with the expertise of local cooperation partners from politics, society, industry, start-ups and the broader research community (e.g. Helmholtz Zentrum München, Deutsches Museum, Deutsches Herzzentrum München, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, DLR, fortiss, bidt, ...) as well as the excellent national and international communities in various dimensions of the TUM family.
